Horticulture test station was established in 1938. May 1st. Dotnuva. 1940. transferred to the test station Vytenio (near Kaunas). 1961. test station began to move to a new base Babtų (Kaunas region). 1969m. test station was built office building, I Babtų over all of the consequences. 1987. February 26 th. test station was reorganized into the Lithuanian fruit and vegetable research institutes. At the time, had 63 academic staff. 1990. Revised Institute Name - Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture (LSDI). 1992m. January 28. institute approved by the State Institute of status. The Institute was under the authority of the Republic of Lithuania Ministry of Education and Science. Institute organized the breeder, biotechnology, genetics, psychologist, immunologist, agrotechnika, plant protection, fruit and vegetable storage and processing specialist team set up a modern scientific basis. Scientific research work is organized in three sections and three laboratories. The Institute has 396 ha of the experimental base, which consists of experimental gardens and kitchen gardens, bandyminiai greenhouses, nurseries. Scientific work carried out by 47 researchers, of which 2 doctors habilitated professors, 29 doctors, 12 doctoral candidates. Qualified technical staff - 38, other support staff - 84 employees.
